Information About Stafford, TX

Stafford, TX is Houston/Sugarland/Baytown metropolitan area. Mostly in Fort Bend County, the city does have a small portion in Harris County. The 2000 U.S. Census places Stafford's population at 15,681.

In 1830 William Stafford established a plantation with a cane mill and a horse-powered cotton gin. During the Texas Revolution, On April 15, 1836 the army of Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana burned Stafford's plantation. Stafford rebuilt his plantation and resided there until his death in 1840. A settlement called Stafford Point was established around the plantation. It became a town in August 1853 when the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway began stopping at Stafford Point. In 1956, Stafford incorporated as a city.
