Foundation Repair Katy TX-Katy, TX soil is often clay. Clay, otherwise known as Expansive Clay, is a reactive soil. Expanding when wet and contracting when dry, this soil can deal a heavy blow year after year to concrete slab foundations. Katy, TX is a suburb of Houston and was named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (often referred to as the "K-T Railroad", now a part of Union Pacific) which ran through Katy in the 19th century. Katy was once known as Cane Island, a name derived from Cane Island Creek which runs just west of downtown. Cane Creek is actually a branch of Buffalo Bayou. The origins of the Cane Island names are widely believed to be from the fact that Katy was once a major producer of sugar cane and rice. In commemoration of the importance of rice to the Katy community, the Chamber of Commerce holds the Rice Harvest Festival every second weekend of October.
